Planner - Infrastructure & Highways
An exciting opportunity has become available for an organised and proactive Planner to join one of the North West's most dynamic and fast-growing infrastructure services businesses.
Location: Leyland, Lancashire
Reports to: Contracts Support Supervisor
Salary: £27,976 per annum

About the role
Supervised by the Contracts Support Supervisor, the Planner is responsible for coordinating and managing the surfacing programme to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and on schedule.
This is a pivotal role that sits at the heart of the business, working closely with customers, Contracts Managers, Supervisors, Estimators, Surfacing Teams, Fleet and transport, and Subcontractors. You'll ensure all jobs are accurately programmed, resources are allocated effectively, and customers receive an outstanding level of service throughout the planning process.

Key responsibilities
Liaise with customers to schedule and confirm surfacing works, maintaining accurate programme records and correspondence.
Allocate surfacing teams and approved subcontractors to projects while maximising efficiency and productivity.
Organise Supervisors' schedules, ensuring all project information, locations, contacts, and scope details are accurate and complete.
Coordinate with Supervisors and Contracts Managers to ensure materials are ordered, tracked, and updated within the programme.
Arrange plant, equipment, accommodation, and additional site requirements through approved suppliers.
Ensure the correct machinery is allocated to each project and complies with service and inspection requirements.
Maintain a complete audit trail of bookings, amendments, and cancellations within company systems.
Ensure drawings, quantities, and project information are received, uploaded, and communicated to operational teams.
Communicate available surfacing dates to estimating and operations teams to minimise downtime and maximise utilisation.
Coordinate annual leave requests and resource planning to maintain operational efficiency.
Operational Support
Provide daily communications to site teams regarding location details, requirements, and programme changes.
Create quotations for external plant and labour hire requirements.
Support the onboarding and approval of subcontractors, ensuring all documentation, evaluations, and insurances are in place.
Haulage & Fleet Coordination
Coordinate all machinery and equipment movements alongside internal and external haulage providers.
Maintain accurate haulage records and monitor costs.
Organise subcontract low-loader movements to ensure machinery is delivered safely, legally, and cost-effectively.
About you
We're looking for someone who is organised, customer-focused, and enjoys working in a busy operational environment.
Essential
Full UK Driving Licence.
Excellent organisational and planning skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
A proactive and solution-focused approach.
Desirable
Experience in planning, scheduling, administration, logistics, transport, highways, construction, or surfacing operations.
GCSE Maths and English.
NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification.
CSCS Card.
GQA Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations or similar.
Experience using scheduling, planning, or operational management systems.
